Radio D2- codes and conventions, feedback, SWOT

Codes and Conventions

We have followed many codes and conventions throughout our radio station. We made sure that we followed the crime and hate code, we made sure that even though we are talking about small made up crimes they are not at all harming anyone and they are not encouraging people do do such things. It is just there for comedy and we have showed that it is comedic with the way we have made this radio station. We have also followed the code of privacy, we made sure that we would not be using any information on anyone that doesn't want to have their story shared. We want to make sure that we have permission from everyone that was involved with our radio station that it was good with them to share their story to us and the public. When looking at some conventions that are involved with radio we see that there are many that we have successful reached. A few examples would be making sure we have all the correct and useful information that relates to our radio station. Our radio station is about crime but on the comedic side its for people to have a laugh but these crimes are very much made up and they are inspired by shows like impractical jokers or you've been framed.

We have decided to add things like background music to our radio station and the radio advert just because it then creating that musical entertaining theme and it makes the audience still want to listen as it doesn't sound boring and it covers up any sound we don't want people to hear. We have also added jingles to make sure that we don't have any random sings are silence and we want to make sure people are still listening or know what they are listening too so a jingle is there to keep people alert. We have also used conventions such as keeping the right tone for our target audience and keeping the right people engaged to our radio station. Everyone is free to listen too it but we have aa target audience we want to reach so we have kept the tone to be happy and friendly to get the right target audience and make sure that we welcome them to our show. The right tones used my attract the right people, but like we mentioned before everyone is welcome. I think that we have used codes and conventions to make sure that our radio station its done to its best.

Listening to other radio stations we can see that their way of making their radio station flow is that they are very organized and they know what they are doing, they make sure they add lots of jingles and sound effects or music if needed to make it flow and not have any big brakes of silence. They keep the audience engaged and i think that we do the same, our radio station does have any sound effects and jingles within the radio station which means there are no sudden big breaks of silence there is always something going on and keeping the audience engaged.

We have made sure that we take into consideration about what and who our target audience is and that we have addressed them in the most appropriate way as possible. What we did was make his radio station top be a funny comedic radio station where we joke about with silly crimes that are very made up. We wanted to make the audience be engaged and involved with the radio station so we talked in a very friendly and welcoming manner. Later on in the radio station we were speaking very chill and relaxed like we would to make sure that the audience are comfortable and are listing. We then made sure we spoke in n acting way when we wanted to make sure that the audience are still listening ad ready for the next stories.

Feedback

This is the survey we have made for people to give us feedback on.

This is some of the feedback we got:

Looking back on the feedback this was very helpful and positive for us because we need to make sure we know what needs fixing for next time and what is good so we can do the same if we ever do radio again. We have had a teacher listen to it and give us verbal feedback but we also have sent out a few forms (imagine is above)  that we wanted filling out to give us a bit more of the structure so it is easy to see what people like and what needs to be improved. The positive feedback we got was that it was funny and that pour teacher enjoy listening to it because it made him chuckle and he thought the advert was brilliant and matched with the vibe of the advert. We also got that improvements which was make sure next time if it is very distinct but check the volumes of each audio because some is louder than others but it isn't too noticeable.

Improvements

Looking at this feedback i can see that we maybe need to improve on tings throughout recording, this is regarding us sticking to the script too much and that we sound a bit too robotic and not casual. This is an issue because we need it to flow instead of being that robotic feeling. If we sound too much like we are reading from a script it isn't going to sound real and it will just not flow and be casual like the style we ae going for so we need to make sure next time that we relax a bit more. Maybe rehearsing before hand will get us comfortable recording all the clips at once and make it sound lees like we are reading from a script but more like it is casual story telling.

Our next improvement is to make sure at the beginning we have a longer jingle or it fades out a bit later on so it isn't so stop and start. This is the editing that just needs to be altered, for it being ,my first time editing i have been learning to fade sounds in and out so getting this feedback has helped me realize i need to learn a bit more on fading things in and out at the right times.

Positives

We got some positives which is nice for us to see because it shows that we have done something that people like, one of the good comments was that the jingles/ sound effects were used appropriately and they liked the different ones throughout the radio show. This is good for us to know because now we know that they weren't overused or underused we added then in the right places and people enjoy them in there, they are there for the comedic side of things and to break up the silence that might have been thee before. We also got good comments on the interview part, Mr French did not play the voice of Mr French we had another amazing teacher to do this a for us and he got comments on making the show very dramatic and enjoyable because it was so over the top it was funny. This is good for us because it then links us to the comedic theme we wanted and it was something different in the radio show which is what people are wanting to listen too.

Strengths

There has been many different good and bad things that we have done within this process of making a radio station but i think for what we have done so far we have ended up being successful. Many of the strengths hasn't just been to do with the process of the radio station but they have been to do with the way w work in the team we have built. We all seem to work well together in a group and we have ended up making a good team out of it and it has made the process of making the radio station so easy once you are in a team. One of us worked well with the filming and directing and the others worked well planning and making the tables for what we needed and the other was very good at making the script and coming up with ideas. However, i think that all of us together have made sure we have put different tasks on for each other and that we have shared out all the jobs to make it easy for us all to get everything done for what we need in the amount of time given. While being a good team and working together we have also had parts of the production process where we have had our strengths and weaknesses. One strength we had was the script making and the planning of the radio advert, the reason we worked so well on this was because before hand we had planned what we wanted to do for the radio station. This starter benefit us in making the radio ad and planning what we were going to include with the radio station. We would each take a section in our radio station and make it pour own so we all contributed to the script. This means we all had ideas to put in the radio station and we were able to write it our own and corporate everything in there. While having our planning and making of the radio advert to go in the radio station we all gave each other jobs to be able to make the process of making the radio station easier.

When recording we did end up making lots of mistakes however, we would listen back to it make sure we could find the issue with why we didn't like it and them, we would improve on it. We would make sure we get all of the good clips in it so we didn't have to film another day which would make all of the editing and finding the good clips easier. When being in a real radio station you don't have the option of making a lot of mistakes f its live sop you need to make sure you read the script right and that there is not a lot of mistakes because things can't be edited out easily when live. However, we had the opportunity to edit out what we didn't like but if we did this in the future we would make sure we were more clear with our words and read the script right.

Weakness and improvements

Weaknesses:

When recording the radio station there were many mistakes and we filmed it all separately. This was an issue because it was very time consuming and it is going to effect us when we do the editing too. When editing we had to filter out all of the mistakes and then we have to piece it all together which is again going to take up a lot of our time so we just need to make sure that we learn how to record i one take without mistakes. We had to do many takes within the recording process, this was good for us because we could learn from our mistakes. However, this again was very time consuming and it has given us more issues further along the process of recording and editing. Where we were recording it was very difficult to get rid of the background sound because we are in a very busy environment even though it was a private room. This became an issue because we had to wait till everyone had gone, made sure no one walked in, made sure we filmed before the bell would go off and made sure we had a perfect audio. We would be able to get clear audio once it was quiet and if not we would retake the audio and make sure it was up to good quality. The sound in some places were too quiet which was a shame when it came to editing however, i tried my best to make the recordings louder and the sound effects quieter which then made the audio blend more, i also had to make the music quieter. We ended up getting good quality audio with no background noise, we recorded in a very quiet place and made sure every time we did film there was no one in the corridors.

Improvements:

I think that if we was to do this again there would be a few improvements. For example, when we was recording i think we should learn how to be able to speak for a longer period without making a mistake so we don't have overloads of audio we have to us and check though. It was very time consuming and it ended up taking up a lot of the editing time too. I also think that we need to learn how to use the equipment a bit more because the sound was very quiet for one of the speakers but loud for the other so we need to take more time making sure the sound is all the same. I think we need to plan in advanced what teacher we are going to use if we do another interview because that was harder to do when teachers have lessons and are not free when we needed them to be, this time we ended up finding a teacher to help but in the future i would hope we plan who we use a bit better. I think that next time we also plan the stories to be a bit longer because we needed a bit more time to do the script and i think next time we should just make them a little longer but other than that i think it all came put successfully.
