Mood Board for magazine/ photography inspiration

This is inspiration for the different kind of styles of photography that I would like to use when I photograph me or my model. I have added in photos that are some NME magazines these are the ones that I like, who I like and what kind of visual style I'm going for. There are images from a photographer called Mario Testino and John Rawlings. I think that their work is beautiful and matches with the type of style I'm going for. 


Mood Board for Colours and Fonts

I am going for a very indie, graffiti, punk rock style with the font for the front cover and a more readable writing for the inside because I want people to understand what they are reading but still keeping with the theme and style of the magazine. The indie rock front would be good for the clear longer pieces of writing but when it gets to the front cover or the contents page I want my writing to POP so I am going for a very different and dramatic font. With the colours I want to make sure I have varies of dark colours such as deep blues and blacks/ greys but I want the pops of colour such as the reds, oranges, pinks and greens. This is just one way to draw attention to my magazine and hopefully give off the punk rock indie kind of vibe. I'm still looking for different vibes that I can put in the magazine, I am liking that vibes from my favourite and different bands/ singers and I am thinking is using there style as my style too it will mean the vibe will be good for my magazine.

Masthead Designs

These are all different styles of the NME masthead and I wanted to add all of these to show off the different style I could use and go for. I love all the different interpretations of the masthead brand name and I wanted to make mine different too. I want to add the NME masthead but with a different colour instead of the original red. That is why I have all of these different styles so I can choose what vibe I am going for but i need it to make the style of the magazine and the target audience. 

My Masthead Designs


These are the designs that I have gone for with my masthead designs because I was wanting a messy vibe, I think that messy and free matches the way indie rock is. What I mean by this is that indie rock is something that is a fun, energetic, powerful but enjoyable piece of music and lifestyle so I wanted to represent that in my masthead design for the NME brand. I used photoshop to create these using the rectangle tool to add the background, the text tool to add my text in and I used DaFont to change all the fonts to what vibe I was going for. Then I used the paint tool to create all the added effects. I am not 100% going to use these ones I have created because I don't know if they are going to match the photos for my magazine, I need to get a photoshoot done so I can experiment with the colour and fonts. However, i do like these ones I have used and I had just been experimenting with these ones anyways.

Sample Photos


These are my sample photos of what I want my images for my magazine to look like. I really like the abstract, unique look and I want to add that element in my work. I think that this will link to my target audience because this unique different look will draw attention and indie rock is very vintage/ abstract so it matches well with the target audience and style they are going for. 



This vibe is something that is what I want my audience to like, and this is what some of my photos and content show involve. The vibe is indie rock photography and this is what I think I want some of my photos to be in this style. This is my inspiration for the style of photos and content involved in my magazine, this will appeal to my target audience because this is the style of audience I want to target in the beginning. This photography, concert crazy, music and indie rock styled people is what aesthetic is what I am looking for in a target audience and content for my magazine.

Front Cover example

I have decided that I am going to do a photoshoot with many different contact sheets with all of my images on it. This then will have a selection of images that I can use within the magazine. So the main image is not fully picked out yet but the placement will be near the same as my diagram. I have annotated it to make sure io know what kind of front what I want to use where but everything on this page is not 100% what I want to do but it has given me an idea on what I want it to look like. The fronts and colour will match the vibe I am using for the photoshoot. I have made sure I have added in the information boxes and areas where the writing will be place too. The main imagine is the main subject on what I want to attract the audience but the masthead will do that too. 


Contents Page Example


This is my contents page with all the information that I want on there that I will use when designing the magazine. This is what I will look back on when I want to design the layouts on the magazine. This is just a simple sketch about where and what I want the page to look like. 


Double Page Spread Example

This is the double page spread which might differ once I have fully started the designing process. This is what I want the images and layout to look like but if it doesn't work I can make it different. I wanted a page that was full of new and exciting things then a page that people can sit down and take in to read. I have done this because I wanted to make sure it was spread out to read so its clear and simple and it is easy because no one in my target audience will enjoy reading a messy chaotic magazine. This is why I have made sure I have separated everything and made it clear to read. 

Going through the process of improvements i have deiced to not do the interview this will not change anything i will still be using the same layout but it will just be an article for my magazine.

I have decided to use a short film from a student in a UTC college for my inspiration and I decided to us this because it effected me so much to were I wanted to do something in that style. The movie is a short film and it has only a few actors in it. There is a story line of the ending of the world however it was more about showing the last few seconds of people accepting what is about to happen and the love/ beauty people have for life and each other. Animation Unit 10- LO3

P5 ............................................................................................................... This is how my animation was created. I have decided to do stop motion animation so my animation required me to make all the backgrounds and take each image of every moving thing to make this animation come to life.  I had my own quiet room to make sure that I have the right resources to work with each background. The backgrounds were made out of colourful card and some of the elements that I wanted moving were not glued onto the background they were stook on by blue tack. This allows me to move each piece how I want too but it not be full stuck onto the background or else it just wouldn't work. The background was also stuck on the back wall with blue tack because I was going to be moving it through shooting and so that needed to stay unstuck but stuck to the wall.
