Magazine Unit- M4

What did i do?

When designing my magazine i have used photoshop as my software which i am comfortable using and i know that i am familiar with everything. I have made sure i am following my visualization diagrams and i am making sure i m happy with the images i have chosen.

The Front Cover Page

This was the first image that i decided to use as my front cover. I planned the photo shoot to have this imagine or something like this to be my front cover. I wanted a very professional and posey shot to make the front cover because i wanted it to look eye-catching and fashionable. I liked how her pose was unusual but it matched the vibe of an indie singer. The way she was wearing her outfit it had this rock look to it which matched the vibe perfectly. I put this on as the background and main image.

This is the masthead, i have done so many experiments with my masthead throughout the project and i have decided to settle on this design. I used the bright vibrant green so it can contrast the pink/ purple shades in the image, this is so the masthead can stand out and people can read it. The front is the urban graffiti font that i had planned to use. I did this all by using the text tool and changing the colour and front in the top and right side of the settings. The placement is also next to her face so it draws attention to the main subject.

Here is were i did a bit of my own dosing, the front and design was too simple to leave it so i decided to add the white outline and extra lines to make the masthead pop and look different. I did all of this by using the drawing tool, i changed the settings to a white pen and the hardness of the line at above 50%, this gives it that messy look which is how i would describe indie rock style its messy and a little chaotic but fun. This is what i wanted my masthead to represent. I then added my main title which was my artist name, the front is the same and it has a outer glow effect on it using the effects tool that you can do when you double click the layer. I wanted to add the glow effects so it look a bit different and it stood out but more subtle.

Here i am using the rectangle tool to create two boxes for my writing and this is for the information i want to add. I wanted the boxes to match the colours of the magazine so i used the background colours and i wanted to make them look less bright so i lowered the opacity to make then look somewhat see through. I then added a barcode that was created with a font and another rectangle created by the shape tool.

I added a yellow rectangle again using the same tool and some text using the text tool and i wanted to add a price and the date it was made. I then added the information and content i wanted to add onto the front cover. This was done by the text tool being used and i used a simple font that was going to be clearer and simple to read but also matched the vibe of the magazine.

The Final Product

Now for the Contents Page

This is the image that i had chosen for the contents page, i wanted a image originally but because the image was landscape when i had taken it is didn't fit on the page. I then decided on this image which kept to the colour theme and stood out to me. I wanted something with a professional outlook and i think image gave it that look, i liked how she was looking away from the audience and it was positioned to where i can write my information and everything look like it should be in the right place.

I am adding the text and wanted it to look different so i placed the title in a different way and i think it links in the imagine perfectly. I wanted to have the same font for my titles like the masthead so i use the same front and same design to make it pop. I did this by using the text tool.

This is me showing you that i am using the draw tool to design the white outline and lined design onto my titles, this is to make the writing pop and look different. I also don't like it looking too perfect because i want to have that chaotic feel and so this is why i wanted it to have that drawing like feel to it. The messy was the vibe for this magazine.

This is were i am adding the rectangles for my contents, i used the rectangle tool and turned the opacity down and changed the colours to match the theme of the magazine which where bright colours such a the green, pink, purple and blue. This is also the final look of the title were i outlined the title and added the extra effects.

This is the text that i added onto the boxes i have created, I used the same front to make it clear and link with the theme. I then added page numbers to each page and to the contents page information so people know where to look and read.

The Final Page

The Double Page Spread Final and Complete

This page started off white but i added the first rectangle to show that there are two pages here. This is the green side and the blue side. I wanted to have them different colour so you can understand they are two different pages. I did this by adding the rectangle tool to make both of them and change these colour to some pastel colours to make sure that you can see the writing clearly.

Here i am doing the same step as before over again but different placements of the rectangles so i know where i am writing and what i want the background to look like. I settled on these colors for it to be easier to read. I didn't want it to be too bright and for it to be difficult to read off. The colour purple and bule are also good because people that ay have an extreme case of dyslexia can read off these colours so i am thinking a bit more deeper within the colours of the background.

I had already written the article on a word document, this is were i added the article on the layout i had just created. I used the text tool to do this and i used the default font because it is used in many magazines and it is very clear to read the text.

Here i have added two of my photos i took to give it some character and a little pop of colour. I don't want it to be just plain writing because that would be boring and o one would read it but with a few images and a bright title i think it is going to make it a lot more appealing for people to read. I added the images onto the layer and added a drop shadow by using the effects settings that come up when you double click the layer.

This is were i added the title, i chose black as the title colour to stand out and I'm using the same font to have used throughout. The black stands out on the place background and matches the colour of the text. I also added the masthead line design to give it that consistent theme and to make sure it looks interesting. I have done this by using the text and draw tool. This is the final look of one of the pages to the double spread page.

This is were i am starting the other page, this is the page that has a list of new and exciting announcements. These are things such as new albums, concerts and songs. I am adding the images that i have already taken of my artists and i am adding green boxes for the text. I am adding them using the shapes tool. The colours are adjusted in settings for the added effect of having a funky background to make it more interesting and eye catching.

After a few tries i have added the right images and adjusted the layout to my desired taste. Here i have then started adding my text, i used the same font and adding the artists name so people know who the images are of. I am using the same front, urban graffiti, for the titles.

Here i have added all of the text using the text tool in Photoshop. I have used a standard front for the information, then i have used an indie front for the titles of the other artists.
This is the added font to my magazine, this is so it links in with the indie and rock style. I have used black to make sure it is standing out from the colourful background and it needs to be clear for my audience to be able to read. Here i have added the page number in the bottom left corner on each page, this is so it is easy for the readers to follow where the information is going to be.

Here i have added small details on each page with white lines to make it look a little bit more interesting and make sure that it links in with the white lines i have added onto my titles. There is the completed double page spread and i am happy with how it has turned out.

File Types

In the physical print format the file type that i have used is TIFF, TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) files are common in publishing, photo editing, and graphic design. TIFFs are a good choice for high resolution, layering, transparency, and flexibility between lossy and lossless compression. They can also function as a container for other file types. That is why i am using the best file type to get the best quality for my magazine.

For my digital format i have decided to use PDF, PDF is designed to be platform-independent, meaning it can be viewed, shared, and printed on various operating systems. There is no need for the original software or fonts used to create the document. PDF files are also typically smaller in size, making them easy to store, transfer, and download. This is perfect for my magazine knowing they can be shared and shown to the best quality.
