Proposal/ Treatment

Purpose and my choice

I am going to be doing a music video. The song i have chosen is 'Don't Stop The Music' by Rihanna. This is a fun energetic song with lots of dancing and colours to have fun with and i want it to be entertaining so i will be choosing this song.

My music video is going to be there to entertain the audience and for it to match the song that i have chosen. The purpose for my music video is to have a good song and a music video to match the song full of dancing and interesting shots. This is going to be there to entertain the audience. My video is going to be packed full of dancing and colours and for it to look like a professional dance/ music video for the song i have chosen. It will consists of shots that look like a dance studio, dancers and back up dancing shots. There will be clubbing scenes and fun old school dancing scenes. Making the music video look like a retro club with a cool pop song on that is fun and atmospheric.

Target audience

The target audience that i have chosen for this is teenagers, teenagers aged 13-18 and older because i think this demographic can work for people older than 18. I think 13 to 18+ year older are targeted towards my music video. I think that people of the age range will know Rihanna and her old songs. The song i have chosen is a very old song of hers and i think that i want to go with a similar vibe as her music video but make it my own with the dance scenes. A lot of teenagers know her music as old pop music and it is very popular in the era. It is very popular in the 18+ years because the song is found in clubs and it is good t dance too so i think they will like the video more because of the nostalgic feeling it will give. The song is called 'white girl music' this is a trending word that some people would rave about and place songs that give off the clubbing vibe. It would be placed in the 'white girl music' vibe, I'm not going to be that subjective with my music video and i want it to be in the pop, dance and fun gerne of music and make sure that all genders, races and religions can watch and listen to the music video.

My main demographics for the music video will be all genders but it is a little geared towards girls because this song is a very girlie pop song and so the dancing may interest the female gender more however, it is open to all genders. It is good for all races and religions because it is nice to think everyone can have a boogie and anyone can. Anyone in the world can listen to it it is not targeted to a specific place this can be liked globally and for anyone and everyone. Ages 13- 18+ will be an ideal age range for this music video. The psychometrics i am targeting towards are people that enjoy to dance and like watching dance videos because this is what the music video will consist of. People who like the old clubbing pop era which is majority the older generation. However this is just for people to be entertained and people who like to dance and have a boogie to old songs.

Distribution

I think that YouTube is the biggest distributer that i am going to use. A lot of music videos are posted on that media and i think that it will be the best platform to release it. I think social media such as Instagram is good to advertise and influence people to watch the video, maybe an accounts for new music videos and a small post posted for my music video would be a good way to reach that target audience that i am looking for. Having this on Spotify and different music platforms would be good to help show off the song and the new music video for that. It will reach that teenage range and anyone in the world. I think that these are great platforms for the right target audience. YouTube is the main platform i would like to distribute it on.

I could market this by posting it on social media, that is the best way to reach the target audience because a lot of teenagers and everyone is on social media in this day and age so i think this would reach the people it needs to reach. Social media can also reach the world especially if they have Instagram and Twitter which will be the best marketing platforms. It will reach my target audience and more doing it through the social media and i think it is a perfect way to market the music video. Things like TikTok are very music related apps and so this would be a great platform to advertise the music video as well. The audience has many ways of reacting so if there are posts advertising the video they can like, comment and share this can also be done on YouTube if there is the music video on there then the audience can like and comment. This is a great way to get more views and more people interacting with it. These are great ways for the audience to interact and for us to market the video.

Content

The video will consist of many different shots that have different angles and style within the shots. I want it to be like an old school club, party and dancing. I want there to be shots of rehearsed dancing because i think that this will match the song. I also had the thought if the music video has trendy up beat dancing in it, this could be a trend on YouTube and TikTok hoping it would raise awareness and trends. This will have dance content in it that i will set and film. I'm hoping i can use my studio and dancers and get shots like a party/ concert atmosphere. This is similar to the original music video for my song however, i want it to be slightly more dance/ music video based and i want it to be for people that like getting up and dancing along. It is a great bop and i want the atmosphere to be good and up-beat. I will have shots of people dancing, me singing the song like i am lip syncing it. Shots in different angles up close and far away, on top of people and below to get different shots in there. Making my video look more professional i will try and add different lighting, colours, angles and shots in there with different settings and hopefully it will all come together.

I am influenced by the old 2000's pop music, the song was released in 2007 with an album with all these song with the same vibe. I like the cool, funky, dance feeling and hopefully i can capture that in my video. I want it to be a trendy dance and fun video. I like the old club music and this is what the song gives so looking at a few of the Rihanna songs they have this kind of atmosphere.

Budget

If i was spending money on this project it would be a middle budget. I am going to be using my own studio with lights, sound system and a stage. If this wasn't my studio and i had to rent it out i think it would be costing a lot of money because of the amount of time i might use and hiring buildings does cost a lot especially if I'm using all the facilities there. I would also be using my friends and own dancers to help film and act in my music video. I would have to be paying them because they would be working with me and i would need to pay them for their time. This also becomes pricey because i would need them for a long time and i am planning to use a group of dancers which could include many payments with them. I would have to pay for lighting if i needed extra and that normally costs a lot depending on the light i will be using. Damage repairs and the money for that will need to be put into place when it comes to hiring sand using the equipment.

Personnel

I am going to be doing this unit alone. I wanted to work on my own music video. I will be having some helpers and people outside of this course helping me. I want actors and dancers in my music video. I want a main singer which i hope can be me in some shots. I am then looking for 8 more dancers as the main and back up dancers.  I will have my mum as a helper when it comes to filming and setting up the music and lights. I will be having a few people helping me and being in the video i think there will be 10 maybe a little less working on this with me. I will film/ edit it all on my own. However, when it comes to the people in the music video it will be my dancers and me in some of it.

Floorplan/ lighting setup

This is the set up that i am going to be using when i am filming in my dance studio. This is images and drawings of where everything is going to be when filming and in the different areas i am going to be using in the music video. I want a set plan to make sure i follow what is happening and to make sure i don't run into any risk assessment and health and safety issues.

This explains where all the lights will be, there is lighting on the ceiling that are both warm and cool toned. There are coloured disco lights also placed on the ceiling that can she shown on the stage. There are star lights that are placed on the backdrop on the stage too. I can also find the added light and use phone torches to created many different lights when shooting different shots. These lights will change and be moved about when it comes to different shots in the music video.

There is the placement of the actors/ dancers and this will change and the amount will change as thew music video goes on. They will be here when they are dancing and the tripod with the camera will be set up in there too but that will change as the music video goes on. This is just a simple and basic set up of the location and lighting and actors.

I don't want there to be any props and if so it will be an old fashioned microphone or a fake microphone to make it looks like a concert like singing even though its just lip syncing. The sound system is already set up and it might ben seen in some shots but it gives that music/. dance relation to the video so i don't mind that being in the shot. This could be class as another prop in some shots.

Planning documents

Risk assessment/ Health and safety

Location Recee

The new date issued for this location recee will be the 26/02/25 this is an updated location recee. This is the new date for this current location that i am using. It is still the same currently i still own the studio and i will be operating in here.

Production Schedule

This is the production schedule that i am going to stick with for this project t make sure everything is done in time and in order to help get the best outcome as possible.

Equipment list

This is the equipment i will be taking from college apart from the little list at the bottom that will be my own equipment that i will be providing already in my studio but i have added it to the list.

Shot List

This is the shots i may use when i am filming but this might change once start filming but this is the plan and what i will use when i am filming.

Storyboard

This is the basic and planned out storyboard that has the different shot types and descriptions that i am planning on doing in this music video. This may change though out filming however, this is what i will follow when it comes to shooting and filming my music video. Timings and movements will be logged down on the storyboard so i know where and when to film and what's best for the shots.

Mood Board

This is the aesthetics that i want for my music video. This is the fashion i want and the makeup i want in my music video too. There are some shots and editing techniques that i would like to use that is also shown in the mood board so this will be really helpful along the way when it comes to filming, editing, setting up the set and for my actors/ dancers to visualize.
