Offline Edit

For my offline edit i have decided to cut pieces down that i want in different placed and i have put all my footage in order. This means that all i have left to do is add the music and transitions that i am looking for when it comes to the full edit of my music video. I have done all of this in Premier Pro.

This process has taken me such a long time. Due to my music video being made up of many different clips (36) and these clips also had to be split into smaller clips i needed to get everything in the right order of how i like it and i needed to make sure i had enough footage to fill out the whole song. I had enough footage in the end and so i didn't need to re shoot. I had a few issue with the clips, this was my mistake. When i did was film landscape and portrait which means that when i put the clips in premiere pro they were different sizes and that meant things were cut off. Some of my dancers ended up being cut off however, as i went through looking at the footage it didn't look too bad and so i kept it in. I also saw that some clips were smaller then other causing a blank space however, the blank space looked a little bit like an effect and i think that it worked well making it interesting and not all the same sized clips.

For the start of my editing process what i did was import all of my clips into Premier Pro, here i then looked through them all and i needed to pout them all in an order that i liked. I did go back to my storyboard and see what sort of layout i was looking for. What i did was move each clip by simply dragging it in the editing section. At the start of this stage i also added the music in by downloading it and importing it onto this edit. The music was fine and i didn't need to adjust the volume. Now i have both the song and clips i could then begin to move all the clips about. This is what took a very long time. I had to shorten each clip so you couldn't see me putting the camera on and off. I also needed to align my mining of the song to the right lyrics of the song, so it looked like i was singing them. This was tricky but i managed it great. I did that first and made sure all of the mining and timing clips were in places. Then i could slot in all the dancers clips and then the odd few of me just posing to create effect and fill in the gaps.

There is not much else i did for the offline edit this was just an edit to make sure everything is in the right place it all works and then this will be used to help me complete the final edit with a few transitions. This screenshot is showing the settings i used and all the tabs that had editing on them. I had the audio from my clips muted so you cant hear them, i had the audio for the music on and then i could also shut off the clips i didn't want to see or could see. This came in very handy when handling so many clips and aligning up everything.

Some of the clips that i used and i only some maybe one or two i didn't like and so i decided to cut them out and that is how i did it. right clicking the clip and pressing cut on the settings shown here. It was a simple and easy process to do this but again i only did it rarely to the clips i didn't like and that i didn't think fit in.

This was one more thing that i did for the offline edit and that was snipping the long clips i had making them shorter and moving them. This is a razor tool and what you can do it split the clip. I had long one to two minute videos of the dancers dancing and i needed then being shorter but without shortening that full clip. I just needed to snip them in between to keep all the clips. This came in handy because i had a few long clips that needed to be shorter. All i had to do was pick where i needed it snipping and so i pressed the razor tool clicked where i needed it to be and then it was cut into the right place.

Here is the final offline edit that i did. I thought this went amazingly and so i didn't really want to add too many transitions in, maybe a few to make it run a little smoother but i like it being clip to clip. I also liked the mismatch vibe that the different sized clips had and so i think they would look great in the final edit.

Importing Footage

There are two ways i imported my files onto premier pro. One way was using the import settings on the app and go through my one drive, then my documents, and then my folder with all of my downloaded footage on there. This process is very effective if it works again there are many issues with the internet and files and computers in general so it really depends what's quicker for you. Both ways work very effectively just one way takes longer than the other. This was the first was i tired and i found it difficult because it wouldn't find any of my files. So this process didn't really work for me however, it is easy and it does work if it can find all of your files. Internet is important.

Or you can also just set up an edit on Premiere pro, you can then be in your files folder and drag all of the footage that you want into the plain edit you have created. This process takes a longer time than usual, this process is what i used because the other process didn't work for me. I had a few computer issues and app issues even internet issues. Technology isn't prefect. However, i still proceeded and hoped that this would work. I did work eventually but it took over half an hour for it all to import and for me to start editing with them,. It bios also because i had a huge amount of clips and because those clips also were around one to two minutes long. The clips can have an issue with the time too.

Final edit and Editing Process

This is the final editing processes once this part is finished the whole edit will be complete. I just want to mention that when i was editing this part non of the transition but two worked. A fade into black and a fade into abrasion. This was not great and so i asked for help. There was no way we could get these transitions to work, this was not helpful and this means i wasn't able to add anything but them two transitions into my work. Nothing worked to fix it and no one knew why it wasn't working. So i had to roll with it and i did just that.

For this i added the full offline edit onto a new edit this is because my offline edit did not save so i had to use the full version to edit on. This was fine i just had to cut the clips using the razor tool and i cut the clips up where i wanted a transition. I only used the fade into abrasion effect once and this looked great it matched with the tipsy, dancing, flashing lights atmosphere. I then added the fade into black effect just a few times in places where i needed it to be a bit smoother, this was when the dancers came on. This worked for me and it managed to look goo with just them few transitions however i wanted just something else to make it look more fun.

Here i wanted to add an opaque effect, what i did was towards the end of the song i have a montage of clips but they looked too boring like that and so i wanted to add a very cool effect to make it a bit different. What i did was add another layer of my offline edit on, and cut the clips that i wanted layering again with a razor tool. I then placed all the layering clips over the area that i wanted them to be on. Then for each clip i changed the opacity down to around 25% to 45% depending on the clips because the colours needed to stand out but still look effective. I then  got rid of the clips i didn't need and checked to make sure it looked good and blended in with the other clips. It did indeed look amazing and i thought it was really effect and better than a transition. I did actually try it throughout the rest of the music video but it didn't blend or flow so i decided to just keep it at the end.

This was the setting i used, i changed this a lot but 33% was a lot more of a good setting for the effect.

This is the final stage of my editing, i really wanted to be something at the end of my music video just saying who created it and what song it was. This looked a bit more professional and i liked that. I then found the text tool and used the black footage to add the text. I wanted it to be plain and simple to look as professional as possible. I wanted to use a white text so it was bold and then a simple font to make it clear. I didn't want it to be too distracting just nice and subtidal but there so you can read it if you want to know the song. I added a fade into black transition so it fades in smoother.

This was the final edit, i am very happy with how it turned pout and yes it took longer than i expected however, it turned pout just how i wanted it too. Even though i ran into a few issues along the way i did end up coming out with a great final edit in my opinion. Things could be improved in the long run but i do really like my final edit.

Exporting Your Final Edit

There is a very easy way of exporting the final edit. On premiere pro there is an import, edit and export settings. I used the export setting clicked on it and it brought me to an area where you can choose where it saves. Here you just add the name of the edit and put where in your files it needs to be saved at. Then all you do is press export and it will take a while but this edit will soon be exported in the location you chose. After that you go into the location it is exported in, mine was my files. Once i found it and checked it exported correctly. I went over to YouTube and then created it as a new video and it was finished. I found this processes is the easiest, quickest and the quality comes out just how you want it. Non of the quality is lost ion any of these processes and they all come out right. I was happy with the way it turned out and that nothing was wrong with it after it was exported. However, you do always have to check just to make sure nothing went wrong. Nothing went wrong for me and so i continued to finish what i needed to do.
